A Cornish girl's food adventures

Hot buttered rum

I’ve always liked the idea of a hot toddy but sadly I find the actual act of drinking them a little like trying to relax whilst drinking a cup of warm paint stripper. A hot buttered rum sounds much more like the sort of thing I could get on board with, like something a Harry Potter loving pirate might drink on cold winter evenings by the fire. I think we can all agree that I’m selling it brilliantly there!

serves 2
60ml spiced rum (I used Kracken, it was yummy!)
100ml hot water
1 tbsp butter
2 strips orange peel
2 cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp soft brown sugar

Hot buttered rum

Stud the orange peel with the clove and steep it in the hot water along with the cinnamon stick. You can do this straight in your serving glass, just make sure that the water isn’t so hot that it’ll shatter the glass.
Cream together the butter and sugar. Add the rum to the serving glasses, divide the butter/sugar mixture between them and stir well so that the butter melts and it all emulsifies. Curl up under a blanket by a fire for maximum enjoyment!
